Pianist

music · notation · web

I play piano, and decoding notation slows me down. Pianist gives two ways to read a piece with less effort.

How it works

  • Sheet view: real engraved notation, but every notehead has its letter inside it, and accidentals are colours: blue for sharp, red for flat. Colours follow the sounding note, so sharps hidden in the key signature show on every note. Each measure’s chord and Roman numeral is printed under the bass staff.
  • Circle view: measure by measure, the chord drawn as a shape on the circle of fifths (out-of-key notes fall visibly outside the key’s arc), and the exact keys to press on a keyboard strip: red for the right hand, blue for the left, faded for notes held over.
  • It remembers your place in each piece, and a link can point to a single measure.
